Baking Soda Dosage for Dairy Cows

In dairy cow farms, in order to maintain rumen buffering capacity, in addition to the bicarbonate produced by the dairy cow’s saliva, providing baking soda through the diet is also essential. Baking soda stabilizes rumen pH in cows and reduces acidic conditions. In cases of acidosis, metabolic acidosis in cows, the alkaline property of baking soda creates an alkaline-acid balance in the animal and can compensate for the loss and reduction of bicarbonate ions.
